Hugs for your friends on the DF - a bright and bouncy house mix

"At every festival and club over there I’d always find myself up the front fascinated with the DJ"

Interview

Can you tell us a bit about the mix we’re about to hear?

Lockdown is making me miss dancing all night with my friends. I recorded this mix hoping to emulate that feeling of hugging your mates on the df. It’s full of bouncy tracks I’ve been loving with a few new tunes from local producers. Hoping to get you all on your feet and boogie round your kitchen.

How did you first get into DJ’ing?

I started getting into house music after I moved to Eora/Sydney for uni. I began to slowly discover the Sydney scene and then went on a Europe trip. At every festival and club over there I’d always find myself up the front fascinated with the DJ. I got back to Sydney and did the Your Shot comp in 2019 with my friend Meg as a duo. After that we started to get disco house gigs. I kept practicing and getting tips from new mates and started exploring other genres. Things started to pick up and then covid hit so here we are now.

Who’s your biggest musical inspiration?

It honestly changes all the time, I have a new DJ crush every week as I discover people. Been loving what Cassettes For Kids and Suki have been doing lately.

Blake.08 has helped me out a lot with my mixing and it’s inspiring to see him smashing out sick tracks since his break post Human Movement.

What are you doing for self care during this lockdown?

I've been trying to wake up early before work and do a workout with my sisters. Sometimes squeezing in a swim after. I also get super moody because I have nothing to do on weekends so have been doing an Ableton course to make use of the free time.

What’s your favourite dance floor moment of this year so far?

I have too many! Dancing with new friends during the sunset at Good Behaviour’s event on an old navy ship in Melbourne. Loods set at Lost Sundays, it was filled with banger after banger, was insane. Also when Caitlin Medcalf played Doctor Pressure at Boiler Room.

One track you can't wait to rinse on a big system when dance floors open up again?

Nathan Pinder - Good Times Ahead

How would you like to see our local scene change and grow after this lockdown?

So keen to see Sydney make a comeback from covid and lockout laws. Would love to see different crews coming together and combining for events. Hope to see some new innovative venues and more diverse lineups!
