Music, Coffee & Sun

July 28, 2021

A bright and sunny mix to put a skip in your step. Warm blends of house , minimal and electro.

I was attracted to electronic music when I was young. In Chile I had a couple friends who played and it always caught my attention how Djs managed to transmit so many emotions and experiences through the mix of different sounds.

Interview

First of all, tell us a bit about the mix we’re about to hear?

I recorded the mix while being in such a nice and peaceful mood. It was a sunny morning. I was just having a coffee and imagining all the great moments and parties to come after the current lockdown. I mixed a little bit of what I like the most: house , minimal and electro sounds.

How did you first get into DJing and how has the music you play evolved since you began?

I was attracted to electronic music when I was young. In Chile I had a couple friends who played and it always caught my attention how Djs managed to transmit so many emotions and experiences through the mix of different sounds.

When I was around 20, I felt the impulse to buy a very small and cheap controller and started watching YouTube tutorials. It’s funny that my beginning as a Dj was actually playing reggaeton, pop and hip hop at Queer parties. Even though my heart has always been with electronic music, I’m happy to have been given the opportunity to play and learn all types of music. Soon enough, I started to get booked in electronic parties and clubs, where I met great Djs and producers that are now my friends.

What’s your favourite record at the moment and why?

At the moment, my favourite record is THYME CAPSULES EP, from Youandewan, who is a great producer. It has 4 tracks that are absolutely amazing! The tracks are very housey, a lot of groove and a strong basseline which I love.

What are you doing for self care during this lockdown?

I'm doing a lot of outdoor sports. I try to go for a run everyday or surfing so that way I keep my mind and body active. Also occupying this time to organise my music, looking for new artists and listening to new podcasts. Most importantly, investing the time to finish my music projects, as well as starting new production projects. Luckily I still have a job so It haven’t impacted my life in that area but obviously missing hanging out with friends and going out for a boogie.

What type of sounds do you gravitate towards when producing music?

When I’m producing music I like to explore different sounds, especially house, minimal, breaks and electro. I really love sounds that can make the track groovy, to be played at a cool party. I also enjoy incorporating a bit of galactic sound, to give the track a little unexpected twist. One of my main focuses is the basslines, I seek to get to a bouncing and turbocharged one.

When producing, what’s one piece of equipment you can’t live without and why?

The truth is that I don't have a studio or anything like that ahaha. I use my desk, headphones, a midi keyboard and my Ableton 10. I haven’t invested in building my own studio because I don’t know how long I will stay in Australia. The good thing is that my housemate also produces music, and he kindly shares his monitors with me.

You moved to Sydney from Chile in 2019, how has it been adapting to the local music scene here?

Moving here has been great in so many ways. Getting to listen to great international and local Djs has opened my eyes wide, and extended my music knowledge. At the beginning it was hard to get booked, because I didn’t know anyone from the music scene. I started to go to the clubs and parties that interested me, and I was able to meet the promoters, Djs, owners, which opened the doors for great opportunities.

Any other projects you’re working on?

I just released an EP [ATMCL006 - Telepathy EP] for the Label Atmos with my Argentinian friend and we are beyond happy with this project. I am also very excited because I was invited to be part of a Vinyl edition for FAFO Records along with other 3 producers. This is giving me the excitement needed to continue growing as a producer and starting new projects.
