This mix has me extremely excited. Not only does it contain music that I’ve been holding on to for a long time, but it’s also the first recorded mix where I’ve pushed the limits of my technical skills by using 3 cdjs. New styles coming out of Europe have definitely influenced the sounds you’ll hear in this one. I really tried to take the listener on a journey through the realms of my favourite Techno.
My digging process is, unfortunately, completely unorganised. I listen to so many different genres of music that I find it hard to focus that into a streamlined method. However, it also helps find the gems you can listen to thousands of times without getting bored.
I use almost every platform for discovery, whether it be youtube, bandcamp, soundcloud, spotify or discogs. I then organise my tracks based on genre, and then into an architecture of Rekordbox playlists that describes an attribute of the track that I use to help me select it.
I first started Djing in my bedroom when I became fascinated with electronic music. Back in the day I played a lot of house music, but it pretty quickly transitioned into a love for techno. I first bought a controller in 2015 and practiced on friend’s cdjs when I got the chance.
Partying in Sydney and around the world has given me an understanding of what makes a good dancefloor, and I try to bring that energy to my mixing no matter the setting. I’ve been given a few opportunities in the last few years to play out, but I really feel prepared to take it to the next level after lockdown ends in Sydney.
This is a hard question to answer. There are too many to list. One of my favourite collectives right now is Eerste Communie out of Amsterdam.
The “groove” the artists manage to create in such quick heavy music is truly inspiring.
My music (and food) consumption has gone through the roof! I’m also exercising a lot, to get the heart pumping and to give a change of scenery. It’s really important to mix things up a bit, lockdown blues heading into spring are tough to manage. But I’m hopeful that we’ll all see each other in the sun soon enough.
Keep your ear to the ground! Obfuscate will provide you with all your dark room hedonistic needs soon enough.
